Two more weeks until Christmas break, and I'm glad to have the time off so I can finally work on my sites. Too many days (weeks, months!) of not updating stories that should have been completed long ago is not good. I really wanted to wrap Flames of Eldonia by end of year. Looks as if it'll be end of January at best. Would you believe I uploaded and linked Chpater 36 in February 2008?
And here I am asking your input and ideas for a story idea I had the same time I began to write Eldonia's first installments. Believe me, I'll have that novel wrapped before even thinking about tackling any new project. I just need some feedback on story development.
If you've seen that tedious (but guilty pleasure -- Come on, admit it!) "The ice caps are melting! New Ice Age coming. Run for your lives!" The Day After Tomorrow, then maybe you can help. This story will not be fan fiction as none of TDAT's characters or situations will show up. The story will not even allude to TDAT's plot, but the premise of disastrous climate change will serve as backdrop.
The year is 3376. More than 10 centuries ago, a group of Earth folks head to various parts of space setting up colonies on the Moon, Mars, even floating cities. Earth's climate changes got out of hand; they had to leave. As in the movie, Earth's northern hemisphere covered in ice, but all is not well in the south. Food shortages, political coups, violent rebellions, wholesale crime, genocide -- you name it they got it bad -- further strains fragile resources. This is the real reason people had to leave. Since the North is completely ice-submerged (think of all those great urban centers frozen over), what would be left of buildings and such once the Big Thaw was well underway? Be advised the lead character has no knowledge of Earth except from her ancestors' oral stories handed down over a millennium.
Thanks for your input. When the story sees print (and it will!) I'll give you ample credit and a nice dedication.
